Connecting Brother DCP-J1200W Printer to WiFi

There are several ways to connect the Brother DCP-J1200W printer to a wireless network. Below we present the easiest way to connect a Brother printer to WiFi.

Wireless connection via Wi-Fi Direct to Brother printers

Wi-Fi Direct allows your computer to connect to your printer without the need for a router. In this case, the Brother printer serves as a wireless access point.

  1. First, you need to confirm the Wi-Fi Direct connection settings;
  2. Then, connect your Brother printer and computer with a USB cable. Then select the “Printer Settings” menu on your computer then select the network “Connection Settings”. After that select “Wi-Fi Direct”. By default, Wi-Fi Direct is enabled.
  3. Furthermore, you can also connect your Brother printer to your computer using a USB cable. In the default settings, which you can also find here in the “Printer Settings Tool”, “Wi-Fi Direct” must be enabled in the WLAN tab;
  4. After that, press and hold the WiFi button on your printer for about a second. This activates the WiFi function. The indicator light will now start flashing blue once every three seconds;
  5. Then, enter your Brother printer SSID passcode into your printer or mobile device;
  6. Finally, your Brother Printer is connected to a wireless network via Wi-Fi Direct.

WLAN connection via WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

If your router and Brother printer support WPS, you can configure the connection wirelessly.

  1. First, check if your network router has a WPS function;
  2. Then, select the “Settings” menu from your home screen;
  3. Next, use the arrow keys to navigate to “OK” or press “Enter”;
  4. After that, find the “WLAN” network by navigating again with the arrow keys and pressing the “OK” or “Enter” key again;
  5. Then, search for and find “Infrastructure Mode” and select “Network Settings” wireless;
  6. Next, make sure the Brother DCP-J1200W printer is within the coverage area of the wireless network access point/router. Range may vary depending on the environment and model. You can find more detailed information about this in your router’s manual;
  7. Then, press the WPS button on your router and hold down the WLAN button on the Brother printer for about five seconds. The LED on your WLAN button will now flash blue every second;
  8. Finally, once the Wireless LED is on, you can now access your printer via WiFi. The WLAN connection via WPS is complete.
