Brother DCP-J572DW

The DCP-J572DW is a compact multifunction printer, which according to Brother offers maximum speeds of 12 and 10 pages per minute, respectively in black and white and color. It incorporates a flatbed color scanner, and a document feeder and prints automatically on both sides. The printer has a USB interface, but can also communicate wirelessly using Wi-Fi. It has four separate ink cartridges. The compact and practical model has parred excellence. The Brother DCP-J572DW printer is appreciated for its value for money, but also for its connectivity. Offering ideal print quality, this inkjet model is designed to last over time.

Brother Printer Design and Features

Brother’s new multifunction printer proves to be compact (41 x 18 x 37 cm) and rather well-designed. We particularly appreciate the easy opening of the box. The multiple accesses allow us to solve a possible paper jam. Beware, however, of the plastic crutch system that keeps the hood open, which is a bit fragile. If the printer has only one 100-sheet tray, it does have a compartment reserved for 10 x 15 cm photo paper. The concern is that you have to maneuver a lever to switch from the bin to the compartment and vice versa, which is not very practical. Good point, on the other hand. The Brother DCP-J572DW is equipped with an automatic document feeder. With a capacity of 20 sheets, to scan and photocopy several pages.

Access to the four ink cartridges is via a hatch at the front and the change is very simple. Another hatch reveals the two memory card readers (SD and Memory Stick). As well as a port for plugging in a USB key. Thus, you print your photos directly without the need for a computer. At the front, the control panel has a 6.8 cm diagonal touch screen, very pleasant to use. The Brother DCP-J572DW offers automatic double-sided printing and has ID printing which allows you to identify your printed documents with personalized messages or by indicating, for example, the name, date, and time on the printed pages. The printer can also compile from 2 to 16 pages on a single A4 sheet and offers to store printing profiles to save your favorite options and reuse them later.

Brother DCP-J572DW Print and Scan Speed

The Brother DCP-J572DW can print 12 pages per minute (ppm) in black and white and 6 ppm in color with a resolution of up to 6000 x 1200 dpi. The first page takes less than 8 seconds for a black-and-white print and 14.5 seconds for a color print. The printer does not need to preheat and has a silent mode which reduces the noise of the prints by reducing the speed of these. Obviously, the silent mode does not reduce the quality of the output prints. The “Photo” mode offers a better compromise. Attention, we have noticed the presence of vertical bands on the pictures. Brother offers a “Best” mode which eliminates this problem but printing is then almost twice as slow.

The integrated scanner scans a black-and-white page in less than 4 seconds and a color page in 5 seconds while maintaining a resolution of 1200 x 2400 dpi. The scan is not done automatically on both sides. However, it allows you to directly scan a page placed in the scanner glass to a mailbox, a folder, an image editor, etc. Color depth and shades of gray improve the quality of scans. The supplied Brother software allows a scan to remove the background color and automatically adjust the document. As stated above, you can also scan to your cloud services such as Google Drive, Evernote, Dropbox, Box, OneDrive, and OneNote.

A very practical Wi-Fi interface

The printer is fast for photocopies (18 s in black and 23 s in color for an A4 page) and offers good rendering. On the other hand, the scanning quality of its color scanner is quite average. Note that Brother delivers a document management program with an optical character recognition (OCR) function. The printer communicates via USB, but also wirelessly thanks to its Wi-Fi interface. No Wi-Fi Direct on this model, so you must have an access point.

The configuration of the network is carried out very simply by the control panel. If you have a tablet or smartphone, the iPrint&Scan app is available free of charge for iOS, Android, and Windows Phones. It manages the printing of photos. Documents, web pages, as well as scanning. Apple device users don’t even need to install an app because the DCP-J572DW is compatible with AirPrint technology. So you can easily print directly from your iPad and Android devices. Finally, the printer directly accesses your online storage spaces (SkyDrive, Google Drive, Evernote, Dropbox, Facebook, Picasa, Flickr) for printing and scanning.
