Brother HL-2240R and Brother HL-2250DNR both seem to be the same from the outside, but the price and some features are noticeably different. Well, let’s see how the devices differ from each other. The appearance of Brother laser printers does not stand out in any way from a number of similar office printers in this price category. The Brother laser printer design has rounded side edges, and the tray is on top. The Brother laser printer is medium in size and fairly light in weight.
The HL-2240R outwardly differs from its colleague in the workshop only in the color of the output tray: it has a gray one. While the HL-2250DNR has a black one. In the lower-left corner, there is a narrow button and four LEDs that inform the user about the status of the device. The Brother HL-2250DNR offers more advanced features compared to the HL-2240R, including automatic duplex printing, built-in networking, and additional paper handling options. However, it may come at a higher price point. Depending on your specific needs and budget, either printer can be a good choice for personal or small office use.
The Brother laser printers can use the TN-2275 High Yield Black Toner Cartridge. Its estimated resource is 2600 pages. Which is quite cheap: one print will cost the user 58 kopecks. Brother HL-2240R and Brother HL-2250DNR From the point of view of interfaces, everything is also simple and uncomplicated. The HL-2250DNR, in addition to the USB port. The Brother HL-2240R and Brother HL-2250DNR added an Ethernet connector for connecting the Brother laser printer to a local network.
Main Differences Between Brother HL-2240R and Brother HL-2250DNR
This is where the main differences between the “twins” HL-2240R and HL-2250DNR begin. The behavior of the younger model during printing is an amusing sight. In our standard speed test, at 5 percent page coverage (the manufacturer claims 24 pages per minute), the printer behaved somewhat inadequately, printing in “bursts” of two sheets per run. Then the apparatus paused for a few seconds and continued to perform its functions.
Due to this behavior of the device, we did not see a result close to the declared 24 ppm. The more expensive model had no problems with continuous printing, the printer honestly printed the declared 26 ppm, sometimes even a couple of seconds faster. Both printers emit an unpleasant odor when printing for a long time. We verified that the specifications match reality by running our standard test (prints with 5% coverage). For the younger model – 24 copies, and for the older one – 26.
As you can see, the first printer is quite “quiet” and does not smell of the declared speed here, and this does not depend on the mode or the selected resolution. The second one demonstrates a decent result, which is incomparable with the slow HL-2240R. Only in the “Graphics” mode with a resolution of 600 dpi, the printer was almost 10 seconds late.
Both printers produce almost the same, relatively good pictures up to a 6-point text at maximum resolution and in the Graphics mode (although we did not notice any differences from the Text mode); no defects are observed. In a standard resolution, printing defects are already noticeable in text from 14 sizes and smaller. When printing graphics in standard mode, graphics appear darker than in the highest resolution. The font remains tolerably readable up to size 4, which is not bad for a cheap printer.
Brother Laser Printer Quality Printing
The Brother HL-2240R is, as mentioned earlier, slow, and we proved this again in our test of printing a 20-page brochure containing both text and graphics. The only thing he “succeeded” in is printing at 300 dpi. Which does not look unusual since the quality of the print itself leaves much to be desired. In other modes, the printer made me wait: on average, it took about 5 minutes to print one multi-page document, and this was at a speed of 24 pages per minute, declared by the manufacturer.
On the contrary, the HL-2250DNR showed consistently fast printing with average image quality. Only the “Graphics” mode at a resolution of 1200 dpi made him think: in this mode, the device printed a 20-page test document for 4 minutes, which is surprising for such a stable printer in other respects. The quality of printing office graphics in both printers is mediocre, the devices reproduce shades of gray quite well, but the detail suffers. Nevertheless, the main task of these devices is the printing of text.
Brother has released good printers for its price category. If the quality of the graphics does not cause positive emotions, then the text of these devices comes out tolerable. The Brother HL-2240R captivates with its price, and the HL-2250DNR, although it costs twice as much, is much more stable than the younger model. It has faster printing speeds, and it also has an Ethernet socket. Which is necessary when working in the office. There are drawbacks to the printer, but this is offset by the relatively low price and toner capacity. The toner should be enough for a large number of prints. These devices can be advised to those who need only text printing from the printer and nothing more.
