Brother MFC-J5330DW

The MFC-J5330DW is a well-specified inkjet with a fairly high print resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi – which makes it pretty good for printing photos on photo paper – and its scanning resolution is only slightly lower. at 2400 x 1200 dpi. The Brother MFC-J5330DW can also print in different sizes (A5, A3) color posters or A4 booklets. The Brother MFC-J5330DW is a fast and efficient inkjet multifunction printer. This reduces the very low printing cost per page. Perfect for those who need to print a lot without breaking the bank. The Brother MFC-J5330DW is a reliable and versatile color all-in-one printer that can handle a variety of tasks, including printing, copying, scanning, and faxing. It offers several key features that make it a great option for those looking for a high-quality color all-in-one printer.

Brother MFC-J5330DW Design and Build

The MFC-J5330DW is an A4 multifunction printer. We’d complain that it took up a bit more desk space. However, the fact that it can fit A3 paper on a very different bracket. A4 sheets can be loaded into the tray in portrait orientation. This means the tray doesn’t stick out awkwardly, as with most A4 printers. Or you can increase the length of the paper tray, which holds up to 250 sheets of A3 size paper. The scanner bed, however, is limited to A4 size.

The MFC-J5330DW is an easily available inkjet printer for an affordable £190.80 (or about $250, and AU$325). The four cartridges are loaded through the front cover. The top half of the printer opens to see the printheads and also plug in Ethernet and USB cables. Brother placed these ports on the inside with the wires coming. Get the cable out from behind to prevent people from accidentally unplugging the printer. As mentioned, there’s a 50-page automatic document feeder on top of the device for lining up scan or copy jobs. A single document feeder on the back for envelopes, header, and the like. The control panel is rather small. But still very user-friendly color touchscreen. It swings up for easy access, with a numeric keypad of the hard button variety.

Features

As a four-in-one Multifunction Printer, this Brother offering can print, scan, copy and fax like a soldier. And as with most models aimed at small and medium-sized businesses. It’s well-equipped, with Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity. The latter includes Wi-Fi Direct in case you want to establish a wireless connection without involving a router. You can easily use other help support apps to print and scan wirelessly from your mobile device. The Brother iPrint & Scan app is free to download for iOS and Android.

Print speeds of up to 22ppm (pages per minute) mono or 20ppm color are claimed. Although we found this MFP to be rather slower than that. However, it prints on both sides of the page, and an additional feature you only get with A3 printers is the ability to print A5 booklets. As an inkjet model, you commit to buying expensive cartridge refills for the rest of the life of the printer. But the cost is no worse than rival brands. All four colored inks dispense separately. So you don’t have to replace the whole set when one runs out. If you choose the high yield XL cartridges at £20.30 (about $26, AU$36) each, you can print up to 1500 pages.

Brother MFC-J5330DW Setup and Installer

When you first set up the Brother MFC-J5330DW. The touchscreen takes you through a fairly lengthy step-by-step guide that includes entering the date, time, and Wi-Fi details. And when we installed all four ink cartridges. The setup wizard instructed us to remove and reinsert them. Presumably, we screwed it up the first time. The setup procedure is very thorough if nothing else, and it includes printing out a colored test page to make sure the printheads are aligned correctly – which they were.

In Installer, the MFC-J5330DW was very easy to use. Thanks to the logical touch screen. It’s on the small side at 2.7 inches. But we found we could type Wi-Fi passwords without overwriting the tiny Qwerty keyboard. The only issue we had was updating the firmware, which was not working over Wi-Fi using the companion app. You just need to plug in the Ethernet cable and use the touch screen on the printer to download and install the printer. And switching from Wi-Fi to a wired connection involved resetting the printer.

Print quality Performance

Mono print quality and speed are excellent and prints in color, producing satisfactory results. Plain text appears in a bold pigmented black with smooth characters and no signs of smudging or smudging. The ink seems rather heavier than with a laser printer, but it is consistent. Documents with colorful graphics and images come alive with bold inks and are free from smudging or blocking. It also does a great job of printing photos on photo paper. Inkjets aimed at the office tend not to handle tricky shadows as well as their user-friendly cousins, but these results managed to look both vibrant and quite natural.

However, we did not achieve the print speeds indicated by the manufacturer. For us, the “first page out time” (FPOT) was just over six seconds, and printing an A4 photo took the better part of a minute. Consecutive plain text pages were much closer to the suggested 22ppm and that’s probably where speed really matters.
