Expression Premium XP-7100 printer is a powerful 3-in-1 printer. It is one of the best-selling Epson brands. It is aimed more at individuals more efficiently with regard to photo prints. This printer will be suitable for the home. If you want to regularly print documents, photos, images, etc. It offers good value for money with quality prints while remaining affordable. The large touch screen and wifi connectivity make it easy to use on a daily basis.
The Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 can print up to 15.8 pages per minute (ppm) in black and white and 11 ppm in color. You can print on specialized photo paper, knowing that photo prints on 10 x 15 cm paper take about 12 seconds to come out. Compatible with AirPrint and Google Cloud Print, the Email Print application is also present to allow you to print from your mailbox.
Expression Premium XP-7100 Has Five Individual Cartridges
The Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 has five individual cartridges. That is separated from the permanent print head. The manufacturer provides range information for the text black cartridge and the colors cyan, magenta, and yellow according to the ISO standard. That alone is not a very cheap side price. In addition, however, there is also a photo black cartridge in the printer. For which there is no indication of the range in pages, only in photos. 400 photos should be able to be output with an XL cartridge. That’s arithmetically 5.5 cents per photo.
The Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 has the full range here: USB 2.0, n-WLAN, Wi-Fi Direct, and LAN. The touchscreen is just as impressive. Its pressure point is precise, the display is large and the menu is logically structured. In the test, however, it does not move automatically when we turn on the XP-7100. Epson accommodates three paper feeds in the housing: A cassette for 100 sheets of normal paper, a photo feed for a maximum of 20 sheets of photo paper, and a single-sheet feed from the rear for individual, thicker print media. Cassette and the photo compartment are on top of each other.
Quality – beautiful photos, sharp scans
As expensive as five inks may be, they pay off in terms of quality: In the test, our text prints have rich coverage and are easy to read. Images and photos are convincing thanks to the good contrast and strong colors. We can often leave the resolution at the default setting without sacrificing quality – this is good for saving ink. The copies are also convincing in the test. Even difficult areas such as areas in pastel colors remain easily recognizable on the copy.
With monochrome copies, however, we see individual pressure points, especially in the background. That makes them a little restless. In the scan, the color evaluation reveals tendencies towards increased brightness and slightly exaggerated red and blue tones. But this is not unusual in the Epson Expression Premium XP-7100’s device class. There is nothing to complain about the sharpness of the scans – that’s gratifying.
Medium speed results
The Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 doesn’t really make the speed work. But he doesn’t dally either. Ten pages of text in 45 seconds is not a top value. In return, the result of the same print job in duplex mode with 1:45 minutes is not delayed too much. Good: The time measurements via USB and WLAN are very similar. There are no additional delays due to the interface. The XP-7100 is also in the midfield when it comes to scanning and copying. The times for the preview and for the grayscale and text scans are the same – they are all in the range of 10 and 11 seconds.
The integrated scanner allows you to scan documents, images, and color photos with a resolution of 1200 x 4800 dpi. The copier can copy up to 11 copies per minute (CPM) in black and white as well as 8.1 CPM in color. The standard paper tray can hold 100 sheets of plain paper or 20 sheets of specialty photo paper. The printer is fully connected via wifi to allow you to print from your phone, tablet, etc. The large 10.9 cm touch screen allows for easy operation by offering you the ability to scan and copy without turning on the computer. Epson’s Creative Print application is also available and allows you to create personalized greeting cards, calendars, etc.
