Workforce WF-2860DWF

With the Epson Workforce WF-2860DWF, the Epson Wireless printer refreshes the ink multifunction printer for the small office and home office. The Epson workforce printer has an ultra-compact design. Thus, the Epson Workforce WF-2860DWF is one of the output devices that people like to take with them in passing. The test tells you for whom the purchase is worthwhile.

The WF-2860DWF require little space on the desk – except in height because they are not as flat as is often the case with ink multifunction devices. The control panel is foldable and has an integrated touch display. In the test, it reacts quickly to finger pressure but is a bit tight. The touch surfaces are sometimes very small. You can easily make a typo here. All connections that you need for working in an office environment can be found on the Epson Workforce WF-2860DWF: In addition to the usual USB interface and the fax connection, the ink multifunction printer can be connected to the network via Ethernet LAN and Wi-Fi. Control via Wi-Fi Direct and NFC works without going through a router – the latter option is interesting for Android users. In addition, the Epson Workforce WF-2860DWF also masters the mobile printing standards of Mopria print service, Epson connect services, and Epson connect printer setup utility. Printing and scanning via the Epson iPrint app are also possible. The WF-2860DWF automatically prints the front and back of a sheet via the built-in duplex unit. Up to 150 sheets of paper fit in the paper cassette – a supply that is usually sufficient for working at home.

What Epson thought of when filling the starter cartridges of the Workforce WF-2860DWF is not clear to us. In the test, the color cartridges report that the ink level is low after a little more than ten printed color pages. Even for less filled installation cartridges, these are extremely short ranges. It is best to arrange for supplies when you buy the device to avoid trouble.

The Epson Workforce WF-2860DWF contains four individual cartridges from a new ink series, which the manufacturer has given the number 502. The cheapest way to get rid of it is to buy an XL multipack. A shortcoming that speaks against the high-throughput operation in the office environment in the long run.

In terms of energy, there is nothing wrong with the Epson Workforce WF-2860DWF. In the test, the device disconnects from the power supply when we press the off button. Even in idle mode, our measuring device shows inconspicuous values with 0.6 watts via USB and 0.9 watts via WLAN. The Workforce WF-2860DWF is a wireless compact printer manufactured by Epson. It is a multifunctional printer that can print, scan, copy, and fax. It is designed for use in small offices and home offices.

Print Quality and Scan Capability

The Epson Workforce WF-2860DWF handles the print jobs quickly. At least as long as only grayscale on normal paper is required. This shows ten text pages in 35 seconds as well as a graphic page in 12 seconds. Even in double-sided printing, the time delay is not tragic. As the ten pages of text in 1:16 minutes demonstrate. When it comes to color prints, it depends on the paper we print on. The time values are fast on normal paper. But rather moderately fast on photo media or quality paper. But the pace of work becomes really leisurely when we scan. A preview scan takes an average of 11 seconds. A colored A4 original is even read after 28 seconds.

The results from the Epson Workforce WF-2860DWF meet what is required in everyday life. Our texts have good black coverage. Even if the edges of the letters are slightly roughened. A second selection in the printer driver is new if we print with normal resolution: Here you have the choice between “Standard” and “Standard-Vivid”. The latter setting takes a little longer, but gives the colors a slight kick, making them brighter. The mode compensates for the often somewhat flat printouts with piezo technology on plain paper.

Our test scans show quite strong red and blue tones. But offer good sharpness, which quickly decreases in depth. The copies are 1:1 in size and proportion to the originals – that’s good. A slight grid is particularly noticeable in black-and-white copies. Colored copies are a bit light, but match the original colors. However, the quality of the CIS scanner is not quite sufficient for difficult details.
