WorkForce WF-7830DTWF best color A3 Epson printer is a real volume monster. In addition to printing, scanning, faxing, and copying. The Epson WorkForce WF-7830DTWF also double-sided scanning/copying and also processes the A3 color format. The Epson WorkForce WF-7830DTW makes a good impression. The black coloring harmonizes very well with the clear lines. Rounded edges and corners provide some variety. Overall, the Epson should easily fit into any office environment and would appear almost reserved if it weren’t for the large dimensions.

WorkForce WF-7830DTWF

The Epson WorkForce WF-7830DTWF presents itself here as an interesting inkjet multifunction printer. In terms of equipment, you rely on network-capable, Apple AirPrint, Mopria, WiFi Direct, and printing, so that one can speak of versatile usage options. The device measures an impressive 51 centimeters in width, 35 centimeters in height, and 40 centimeters in depth. With the paper outlet fully extended, the depth is even 30.5 centimeters. In view of the variety of functions and, above all, the support of the A3 color format, the dimensions are put into perspective again. Nevertheless, users should be aware that it may be oversized for their own home office. Its weight of 18 kilograms also plays a role in choosing the right place, because the device is of course not all that mobile.

Overall, the build quality leaves a positive impression. All flaps and openings – and the Epson has a lot of them – fit well into the case and are tight. Anti-slip elements on the underside, in combination with the high dead weight, ensure an extremely firm footing. If you want to move the multifunction device, you have to use a lot of force – perfect.

WorkForce WF-7830DTWF Features

Users must first connect the included power cable to the back. After the first start, step-by-step instructions on the integrated display guide you through the commissioning. The cartridges are already installed in our test device, but they should usually be included separately and therefore have to be installed. A basic package of the required colors black, cyan, yellow, and magenta is already included in the scope of delivery. Removing and inserting the tanks is extremely easy. During our commissioning, the device does not carry out any calibration prints, we have to trigger them manually via the menu. This is also necessary, because, without it, the colored print areas show clear stripes and streaks.

Connection to a computer using a cable or wireless via WLAN. However, the fact that Epson does not include a suitable USB cable shows which variant the manufacturer prefers. To install on the computer, users must first install the appropriate program on the enclosed CD-ROM. Here you will also find very detailed operating instructions. On the other hand, only a rudimentary quick start guide made it into the packaging, which we think is a bit of a shame.

The Epson WorkForce WF-7830DTWF uses WiFi Direct to create its own WiFi network, which allows you to connect to it directly without the need for a wireless router or access point. Users can also connect their end devices directly to the multifunction device and do not necessarily have to integrate it into their home network. At least in theory: In practice, however, the connection with the associated Epson Smart Panel app for Android and iOS does not work in our test. Accordingly, we have to go the second way and first integrate Epson into our network.

Easy Operation Through Touch Screen

On the device itself, operation is mainly via the touchscreen on the control panel. However, the screen is quite small with a diagonal of 6.7 centimeters. In our opinion, more would have been possible here, especially considering the dimensions of the device. Some inputs are quite fiddly, but overall it works well because the touchscreen responds quickly and precisely. Navigation through the on-screen menu works without any problems, which is mainly due to the logical menu structure. Next to the screen are the home button and a help button – both are also touch-sensitive. The only physical button is the large power button to the left of the touch panel. Practical: The entire panel can be folded up by almost 90 degrees to make operation from above easier.

Operation on the computer is via the Epson Photo+, Epson ScanSmart, or Epson FaxUtility software. As already mentioned, users access the various functions of the device via smartphone or tablet via the Epson Smart Panel applications. None of the programs present us with any major challenges in terms of handling. They are logically structured and transmit our commands securely to the WF-7830DTWF.

WorkForce WF-7830DTWF Epson Multifunction Device

The Epson WorkForce WF-7830DTWF has two large paper registers, each of which can accommodate up to 250 sheets of paper. Accordingly, even frequent printers do not have to refill too often – excellent. The two almost identical cassettes can be easily pulled out with a handle and as soon as they are filled with paper, they can simply be completely sunk back into the housing. By default, the capacity is sufficient for a maximum of A4 size, but thanks to the flexible edge guide, it also offers space for smaller formats. If you want to use the A3 color format. Press the blue lever and pull the two compartments so that large paper can be loaded. Then, of course, the containers no longer fit completely into the housing.

The output tray is located above the paper cassettes. With dimensions of 44 by 33 centimeters, the document glass is large enough to also be able to scan in A3 color format. The document cover is pleasantly easy to open and close again. On the top, Epson has given WorkForce an automatic document feeder so that users do not necessarily have to use the document glass to copy or scan. In addition, the multifunction device can process several documents at once. The feed worked perfectly during our test operation. We might have wished that the rails could easily snap into place in every position, but that’s not really necessary.

Epson Print Speed Quality

The Epson multifunction printers have a maximum resolution when printing at 4,800 x 2,400 dpi. The Epson WorkForce WF-7830DTWF should print 32 A4 pages in black and white and 22 pages in color per minute on plain paper, depending on the quality setting. After all, the duration depends heavily on the paper used and the printed motifs. So the laboratory values are difficult to achieve in practice.

For our test, we used a manufacturer’s brochure on the Epson XP series (16 pages) and a high-resolution landscape photo as a template. For this, we print the brochure and the photo in different settings. The printed document consists of text and graphics so that we can make the most comprehensive statement possible about the printing speed and quality.

The quality of the printouts is good. However, one notices that the Epson is not in the upper price range for its extensive equipment at just under 300 euros (RRP). The text print is good, in standard mode, the result is quite sharp. However, we definitely see a difference in the highest quality, which from our point of view is almost perfect. Ultimately, users have to decide for themselves whether the leap in quality justifies the extra time. We tend to use normal printing, as it also requires less ink. Graphic printing shows a similar picture, with high-quality images and graphic elements being a bit sharper. A real enrichment is duplex printing, which does not cause any problems in practice. Every now and then the Epson spits out a blank page or pulls in two pages at once during our test run.

Scanning and Copying

Scanning on a computer using Epson ScanSmart software. On mobile devices, scanning is done using the Epson Smart Panel application. Because it is not equipped with a USB or MicroSD interface, users cannot scan directly to storage media. However, you can scan directly from your device to a cloud service.

The settings for resolution, preview, and scan area in the Epson Smart Panel app are no different from usual scanning applications and work without any problems. The Epson WF-7830DTWF needs almost 15 seconds for a simple color scan of 300 dpi in A4 format – an excellent value. With a grayscale template, the speed is even faster. A big highlight is a double-sided scan. Simply place the document printed on both sides of the document feeder and the multifunction printer scans both sides one after the other. For this, he needs about 35 seconds with a 300 dpi color scan.

The copy function completes the extensive range of functions. Scanning is very easy, just place the document or image you want to copy on the document glass. Can scan via the document feeder and select copy function via Epson Scanning app. A color copy in A3 format only takes about 25 seconds to copy which is great. Other functions, Epson multifunction devices can also copy on both sides.
