Brother MFC-J6540DW A3 All-in-one MFC Printer, Brother printers have created a large yet consistently good A3 multifunction printer for everyday office use. The model is easy to connect, produces really reasonable follow-up costs, and impresses with a fast working method that doesn’t affect the quality of the output. Further development of the print head and printing system paid off in full. It is a pity that the Brother MFC-J6540DW does not have a second paper cassette to store A4 and A3 paper simultaneously.

Brother MFC-J6540DW

The 4-in-1 Brother printer ink multifunction device MFC-J6540DW with automatic DIN A3 duplex printing function meets the requirements of demanding small offices and workgroups. Create a variety of A3 and A4 color documents in no time. Enjoy high quality, outstanding print speeds, and low running costs. Scan, copy, and fax your records up to A3 size using the 50-sheet document feeder. Print directly from your desk, a meeting room, or a mobile device – thanks to a wireless WLAN connection. This printer has a range of features that make it an ideal choice for businesses that require a reliable and efficient printing solution.

New and very fast printhead works on A4

At the heart of the Brother, MFC-J6540DW is the new print head with 1680 nozzles, divided into 420 nozzles per color. Piezo elements that can be moved up and down control ejection. The predecessors only mastered the downward movement. Using both directions improves performance and distributes effort evenly, according to Brother. The result: significantly increased ink droplet frequency and size with the Brother MFC-J6540DW. The printing speed and accuracy of the output as well as the longevity of the printheads benefit from this.

In addition to printheads, manufacturers are also gaining further speed with paper positioning. Can print quickly using A4 paper, it is located opposite the paper feed. In this way, the printhead scans the length of an A4 sheet of paper, not (as usual) its width. This saves movement and also increases speed.

Tests show that this combination actually has a positive effect on speed results. The Brother MFC-J6540DW completes ten pages of A4 text in a blazing fast 26 seconds. The speed also remains high in duplex printing, as illustrated by the 29 seconds we measured for the same task. This also applies to color printing: ten A4 pages with graphics, images, and text take only 1:18 minutes. The duplex mode doesn’t slow down here either, instead, the stopwatch stops after 1:06 minutes. Overall, this is a very low reading.

Brother MFC-J6540DW High-speed print in A3

With the A3 sheets, the multifunction printer works from the paper width to the length – this corresponds to the usual procedure of inkjet printers. In the test, the Brother MFC-J6540DW completed the tasks quickly. For example, we measure 2:13 minutes in grayscale and 2:37 minutes in color for the ten-page PDF with text, images, and graphics. Interestingly, the Brother model gives even more gas in duplex mode and even completes the color printout in just 1:44 minutes.

We can only determine a minimal increase in time when scanning: The A3 preview takes just under 6 seconds. With 7 seconds, the multifunction printer only needs a blink of an eye longer for a color scan.

Copy jobs also benefit significantly from the advanced printing technology of the A3 multifunction printer: A black-and-white copy in A4 format is ready in a brisk nine seconds and a color copy in just seven seconds. Even if the scanning is independent of the new printing process, you don’t have to worry that the Brother MFC-J6540DW breaks in here. On the contrary: The scan times vary only minimally between four and five seconds for preview, greyscale, text, and color scans – these are very good results, even if they refer to the A4 format.

Brother MFC-J6540DW A3 Good office quality in printing, scanning, and copying

As with many multifunction printers for office use, the Brother MFC-J6540DW uses pigmented inks throughout. The LC-422 ink series is used for the four-color printing unit (C, M, Y, BK). Printing with this device, we noticed slightly rough edges of the letters in text printing and good coverage and not overwhelming. Although the colors are a bit darker than in dye-based variants. This also applies to photo printing. We didn’t see any annoying color casts even with difficult colors such as skin tones. They may appear a bit cold to the viewer – we think they work well for pigment inks.

The copies cannot quite keep the high-pressure level in the factory settings. Areas have a visible grid, pastel-colored parts are translated into shades of gray on the copy. At the same time, our A4 templates are cut off a bit at the top edge of the copy. On the other hand, there are no reductions or similar distortions. Scan quality is easy enough to use for everyday office needs. Has a fairly clear sharpness level on the scanned text.

Brother Printer Device Equipment With Small Starter Cartridges

In principle, the Brother MFC-J6540DW has all the features that are important in the office: a paper cassette for a maximum of 250 sheets. An additional single-sheet feeder (from the rear) intended for thicker media; is an A3 scanner. A duplex printing unit that covers the A3 format. A foldable touch display, and a USB host port on the front of the device. A fax function, and an automatic document feeder (ADF) for up to 50 templates.

The interface equipment with Ethernet LAN, WLAN in 2.4 and 5 GHz, as well as Wi-Fi Direct, is right – more is not possible, and even if Brother omits the driver CD with this model, the installation works smoothly using the setup wizard, which you can download from brother support, for working with a mobile device. The Brother MFC-J6540DW is capable of Apple AirPrint, and Mopria and can be controlled using the Brother iPrint&Scan app.

The Brother MFC-J6540DW comes with starter cartridges with a range of 375 ISO A4 pages per color – that’s meager given the device class. But it looks better when buying later: Equipped with XL cartridges designed to print up to 3000 black and white pages and 1500 color pages. This results in 1.5 cents per black and white and 6.9 cents per color page for the A4 area. This corresponds to low follow-up costs in the text area and acceptable prices for color printing. For A3, however, you have to reckon with correspondingly higher ink costs.
